| Dr. Andy Fung Sifu Yim Siu-Keung – Master of Free Fighting, Best Coach of Kungfu Research institute of university stresses that "Learn from the achievers, regardless of seniority," and "Practice is the only standard test of truth." I am honoured to be under the tutelage of Sifu Yim Siu-Keung, Chief Coach of the Huitong Martial Arts, and having authentic experience and research about the secret and truth of Chinese Kungfu! As a youngster, of course Sifu Yim does not look like a traditional grand master of Chinese Kungfu. But rather, he resembles a professional coach of a Sports Academy. In fact, he has a long history of learning various forms of martials arts that include Taekwondo, Wing Chun, Bai Mei (White-browed), Wrestling, Yiquan, for nearly two decades. As a diligent practitioner and a thinker, Sifu Yim has not only mastered the essence of various elements of Kungfu, but also melt them into his own system of free fighting, and founded the Huitong Martial Arts. His high level of achievement is clearly shown in his multiple championships in competitions, as well as pretty much experience of combat outside the gym with learners of other schools of different forms of martial arts. Although the Chinese saying goes: "No single scholar is called the top one, no kungfu practitioner considered the second," I reasonably believe that Master Yim is obviously an expert of free fighting among the younger generation in Hong Kong. During free fighting, you can experience how fast, skilful, powerful, yet steady his punching and kicking can go! His wrestling skills are also superb, fast as lightning. In addition, he always demonstrates that he has successfully locked you up before throwing and ground-holding using skilful leverage movements! He has been coaching Chinese Wrestling at the Hong Kong Lingnan University, and also invited as a guest speaker and demonstrator of Wing Chun Kungfu by the Chinese University of Hong Kong (School of Continuing and Professional Education) to the theme of the structure of human body and mechanics. Already a famed master in Hong Kong, yet he is still diligently practising kungfu skills eight hours a day and seven days a week! Many people want or even claim to be a Kungfu master. But you may ask yourself, "Are you willing to do the same thing for twenty years or even for whole life?" No pain, no gain. Truly as the Japanese martial arts motto remarks, " Practise a thousand days in order to return to a pure heart, training of ten thousand days to achieve the optimal." Moreover, as many senior students of Huitong Martial Arts advocated before me, Sifu Yim has all 3 necessary criteria of an excellent coach master: 1. High level of martial arts skills; 2. A willing heart to share with apprentices; 3. Activity approach of teaching and learning. A dedicated kungfu master, Sifu Yim uses a lot of charts and diagram, supplemented with video and written explanations, and even demonstrate the skills repeatedly so every learner can understand what he says. No wonder he has been awarded The Best Wing Chun Coach! Sifu Yim once explained the meaning of "Huitong"(匯統). One should not be bound by the division of different martial arts schools. There are strengths in each school. Therefore, one should learn the essence and elements from various schools and form your own system, and then you can upgrade your level of competency in the path of kungfu training. With a grateful mind, I wish Sifu Yim achieve a higher level in the process of pure heart teaching and learning kungfu; and the true theories and practice of Sports Science and Martial Arts of Chinese Kungfu can be spread through his more and more diligent student-learners! |
